New Moon in Taurus, May 2023
We will welcome the New Moon at 28 degrees of Taurus on May 19, 2023, at 10:53 a.m. CDT. This lunation asks us to consider what we are planting and building. It’s time for a fresh start, as it always is at a New Moon.
But at this New Moon, there is a party going on in the sign of Taurus! There is a “stellium” of planets, which means that three or more planets are in a sign.
Well, we have 5 planets in Taurus on this New Moon: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Jupiter, and Uranus! The North Node (which is a calculated point, not a planet or object), which is a karmic or fated point, is also in Taurus!
So, we have energies representing our will (Sun), our emotional needs (Moon), communication (Mercury), expansion and wisdom (Jupiter), and change (Uranus) all in Taurus.
With all of these energies hanging out together in Taurus, there is tremendous energy to consider our relationship with the earth, with what sustains us (literally, figuratively, and spiritually), and with what we are building in our lives.
And I would add to consider all of this both as individuals and as part of the collective humanity on this planet.
Jupiter in Taurus
Expansive Jupiter bounces into earthy Taurus at 1:20 p.m. CDT on May 16th, where it will hang out for a year, until May 25th, 2024.
Jupiter symbolizes generosity, wisdom, abundance, growth, and good fortune, generally speaking.
Taurus represents lush gardens, planting and sowing seeds that grow into those gardens, building—it’s a combination of practicality and earthy sensuality.
When those gardens ripen, Taurus harvests them and creates a feast that any Epicurean would swoon over (in fact, Taurus is that Epicurean).
With Jupiter here, it’s time to expand those gardens, whether they are literal gardens in your backyard or other areas of your life you want to cultivate.
Jupiter represents wisdom, for example—do you want to cultivate and expand your mind with new studies or travel? Do you want to spend some time growing your spiritual wisdom? Or maybe you frankly just want—or need—to improve your cash flow.
Whatever it is for you, Jupiter in Taurus wants to help you grow and expand, but most especially those areas of life that sustain our physical existence, which can be quite a broad category.
So perhaps ask yourself that question: What sustains me? What am I cultivating in my life, or what would I rather be cultivating? Plant those seeds, nurture them watch them grow. Then, rejoice in your bountiful harvest!
Healing Waters of Cancer and Pisces
Meanwhile, Mars and Venus are both in Cancer, although Mars is teetering at 29 degrees, almost moving into bold fire sign Leo (where it will enter the next day on May 20th). These are energies of passion and love, swimming together in healing, nurturing Cancer, and acting in harmony with soothing, practical Taurus energy.
Is it time to do some healing around relationships or perhaps to act on your feelings in a careful, practical way?
Neptune in the water sign of dreamy Pisces is in harmony with the New Moon and also makes an easy, flowing aspect to Mars, perhaps again calling for some gentle healing, maybe spending some time by the water or at the spa, or simply reiterating that it’s time to move forward on your dreams.
With structured Saturn also in Pisces, there is a harmonious relationship with Mercury in Taurus. This is great energy for designing a solid plan for those dreams.
I think the message is clear with this New Moon: Take care of yourself and your dreams. Plant those seeds and nurture them with careful, kind attention. Be diligent and do the work (Saturn) and watch your garden grow (Jupiter) into lush abundance.
Gemini Season
The Sun enters Gemini on May 21st and will be there through June 20th. Gemini friends the spotlight is on you! Gemini loves to learn, communicate, and create, particularly with their hands and/or words.
Even if you are not a Gemini, wherever Gemini falls in your chart may be an area of your life where you may want to learn something new or do some networking during Gemini season. Perhaps you will find that you have some exciting new ideas you want to explore.
