New Moon in Cancer + Leo Season Begins!
We will welcome the New Moon at 24 degrees of Cancer on July 17, 2023, at 2:32 p.m. ET. This Cancer New Moon energy is about home and family. Cancer energy is nurturing. Cancer is ruled by the Moon, which symbolizes the Mother (among other things).
This is a great time to enjoy the comfort of home, to spend time with family (whoever that is for you), and to take time to nurture and heal yourself. A Cancer New Moon also is lovely energy for spending time near water. Perhaps you may want to spend the afternoon at the lake or the ocean. If that’s not accessible, I highly recommend a salt bath. Just pour a cup each of Epsom salts and baking soda into bath water. I also like to sprinkle a few drops of essential oils.
If you write New Moon intentions, perhaps you might want to craft intentions around Cancer-influenced themes of home and family, nurturing, and healing.
On this same date, the lunar nodes will be sitting at zero degrees as they prepare to move into the relationship axis of Aries and Libra for the next couple of years. “What does that mean?” you may be asking. The nodes are calculated points based on the Moon’s orbit. They are considered karmic points; however, you must also consider the houses where the nodes fall. All that said, the South Node is currently in Scorpio and will move into Libra on July 17th. The South Node is all about old stories, baggage, and karma that needs to be released.
What stories do you need to release about relationships? The North Node is like a North Star. It speaks of growth and development. Moving toward the North Node helps us grow.
The North Node will be shifting from Taurus to Aries. Aries is about the self, particularly in relation to the other. Who are you in a relationship? How are you growing? How can you better step into your bold, beautiful self? How can being more authentic help you on your life path, and by extension, help others?
Mars in Virgo
Mars entered the analytical Earth sign of Virgo on July 10, where it will remain through August 27. It's time to check the details as you go about getting things done. Be extra discerning. Read the fine print. Tidy up your space. Get your car detailed or tuned up. Analyze first and then take action.
Mercury in Leo
Mercury moved into bold Fire sign Leo as of July 11th, where it will be until August 28th. While in Leo, Mercury wants to be heard, loud and clear! The desire to learn and share knowledge is strong. Self-expression might be bolder and more courageous than usual. If you're usually a little shy, step into your inner Leo and speak up! However, do remember to listen.
Venus Retrograde
Lovely Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and money, will turn retrograde on July 23rd and remain there until September 4th. Retrograde periods are often viewed with angst, but, truly, there is no need to worry. That said, there are considerations to keep in mind. Focus on the “RE”—retrogrades are great for reflection, revisiting, and revising.
You may find yourself reflecting on your relationships or your money habits. This could be a good time to restructure how you handle your finances, for example. A Venus retrograde is not an ideal time to make major purchases or make a major change in your appearance. It’s also not the ideal time to begin a new relationship or to make major shifts in a current relationship, if possible.
Leo Season Begins
On July 22nd, the Sun roars into Leo! Ruled by the lion, Leo is a loyal, generous energy. Big-hearted, magnetic, and courageous, Leo likes to be noticed. This is a very creative energy. Often, artists and performers have strong Leo placements. And a big mane of luxurious hair! Let your inner child out and enjoy Leo season, folks!
